Drawing a close to another chapter - 2011

It is the time of the year to reflect on the year that past. 2011 had been a very different year - a year of changes. It is the year I made my first decision to switch career and made a to move on to a different stage of life. These are major decisions that will impact on the rest of my life.

Switching of career had been a much deliberated move, weighing the pros and cons carefully. Living audit much earlier than planned, deciding to place other priorities ahead of work. I value having control of my life and will be willing to compromise other things for this. I am way past the adapting stage in my new job. There are days I wish my job can be more exciting, instead of occassionally stoning off at my desk. Though I have some work to do, the last 2 weeks of Dec was a joyous month, with no mood to work. lolz. Somehow there are just some things I can't figure out, some things that I can't resolve for months. haha...oh wells...i need to hone my industry skills.

My life took a drastic change in May becoming from single to engaged. Our flat has been confirmed in a far away land. Like every girl, I have dreams of this special day, haha but ironically, it is hard for dreams to turn into reality. haha before i permanently erased my dreams, i shall jot it down. i dreamt of being in a garden with lovely flowers surrounding where i can jump and run around carefreely, such a scenaic view. I dreamt of staying in a high rise floor with windows that oversee greens...

Being in much more control of my life, i went on 2 short hikes, reliving of some distint memories of my love for outdoors. in these, i realize that it is not the destination that matters, it is the process of determination and perserverance that brings out the delightful smiles upon reaching the top.

2011 also marks my first attempt at studying part time while working full time. a new challenge to juggle studies with work, something i always thought is easy. how wrong i was, it requires much sacrifice of personal relax time and social circle.

i look back at my 2011 resolutions and realized the simplicity of the resolutions. All were achieved, except one. the one was to learn tennis. somehow the motivation wasn't strong and my weekends are often spent studying (except after exams where i just slack my weekends and nights away).

how about my resolutions for 2012? still in the process of finalization...haha :)

Christmas 2011

A most memorable Christmas this year, spend at gunung datuk and melacca. The decision to go was made just 2 days ago before. Thanks to dear who made all the arrangements to ensure our transport and accommodation are settled. With the fully booked rooms in melacca city, we could only settle for a hotel in the outskirts.

Christmas was spent on hiking up gunung datuk. A v steep start and 15min into the hike with my backpack, I was breathless and giddy. Thankfully for the energy bars, water and rest, I managed to continue my way up. Upon reaching the top after 2hrs, it felt really great! AWESOME! The feeling was great that my persistence paid off and we did not give up. The wind was so strong on top I was really timid of climbing to greater heights on the ladders. Safety first. After a short break of 30min, we started our descend. We were grossly wrong thinking that the descend would be faster. The steep slopes slowed us down quite a bit. Looking back, I can't belief I scaled those stones and steps.

It is indeed tiring to ascend and descend on the same day. Exercised so hard for a day, my legs ached a lot and seeing stairs seem like seeing stars. Haha, so glad we had proper accommodation for the night. Not the best but definitely comfortable to rest for the night. Too tired to explore the surroundings, we turned in at 8:30pm and slept till 8pm. It is a much needed rest.

The next day was own time own target exploring melacca town.

It was a very meaningful Christmas. Indeed, it is a Christmas filled with love. I never thought just the 2 of us could go alone for a hike, but we did it :) nagvigating our way up ourselves, encouraging each other and made it to the top together. Though we both grumbled a lot, it was a very good exercise. It reminded of our first trek where we encountered a leech on my again and you had to pull it out. Haha no short cut of lighter so you had to exercise your masculine act to pull it off.

All I want for christmas is you :) we did it together! :)

YEAHS! FEELING VERY HAPPY NOW!

it took many months of sourcing before this venue for solemnization is decided. For the last few months, there were really much headache thinking and considering the various locations. from outdoor locations such as fort canning to indoor locations like seb bistro, safra mount faber and nus, more than 10 places were researched upon. Kudos to dear for his persistence in researching for an ideal location. his persistence to find the type of view i would dream off within our tight budget is really amazing, never failed to caught me with surprises with his new options.

Somehow none actually caught my attention at first sight. Each has it's pros and cons. Though some of the places astonished me with their pretty view, it just didn't struck me as "the one". I dreamt of holding it in a location with beautiful natural scenary yet something simple not elaborated given that we are only working on a budget of 2k. to me, that was an almost impossible task.

finally, this location came up on wed. looking at the photo taken by dear when he sneaked out in the midst of studying. it looks normal. it was a move initiated to rank our options so far to allow us to eliminate the location. my top position was raffles house, his was a last minute addition to the list of competitors. up till today, i was almost convinced of holding it at raffles house, starting my preparation on the budgeting and planning required. but in the afternoon, we decided to take a look at his first choice for the last time to convince us of our final decision.

the first impression was good when i stepped into the carpark. stepping into the restaurant, i was stunned by the beauty. the intristic design of the interior was amazing. though it may not have the best of everything, what bought me over was ultimately the view from the balcony and the marble partitions. i have a weakness for marble. yes, this is love at first sight.

this addition to the competition was only announced for competition 3 days ago, yet i was so taken over by the place that it won first place in both our hearts. i knew this is the place and it did not take another session to decide. on the spot, the reservation was made for 03 March 2012.

in due course, this location will be revealed :)

suddenly emo.

just another 2 more days, yet the motivation isn't there. don't think i am as well prepared as i should, yet i have put in quite a bit of effort to consciously study every weekend.

finally i understand the feeling. it's harder than i thought.

15.11.2011

Happy birthday to myself :)

it was a double celebration - birthday and confirmation. it was a great day of celebration, been a while since i celebrated on my actual day seldom having the opportunity to have your company on the actual day. On the pertext of studying for exams, both of us are on leave.

It was a day of surprises, where i have no idea of the events in place, being chauffeured around was a bliss once in a while. Started the day with my foot infection treatment at NSC, sigh still so many session and it is so troublesome to keep having to go down during work days :(

The first event was "You are the apple of my eye" movie. Nice, indeed nice :) brought back school days memories, back to those school days love. haha the crudeness brought laughters and silliness.

Followed up was 3-course lunch - french crusine @ Magazine road. SUPURB! EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE and FOOD! highly recommended :) haha indeed going more atas as we grow older, have grown out of buffets. lolz but too high class for me, felt so uncomfy eating. the chef provided such a great experience, personally greeting his guests and the food was really too yummy. especially that dessert - CREME BRULEE AU CHOCOLATE! woohooo super sinfully delighful :)

Starters: Some bread with a small cup of mushroom soup
Main Course: JUS DE BOEUF WAGYU BRAISEE
wa the beef was just undescribly nice, so tender and well cooked. in fact, it serves the best beef i ever eaten till date. lolz.
Dessert: CREME BRULEE AU CHOCOLATE
Undescribable, simply too nice.

Next was Orchid Convention @ MBS and Gardens by the bay. I love flowers :) a rarity to find u walking so much with me so a big thank you! especially as i love walking! finally, simple dinner of Fish Head Curry. Present: Received by first compact camera :)

been a great day, fully away from worries of work and everything.

I have no doubt my company is the top 10 best employers in Singapore. all that sums up, it feels awesome to be working in a company with a good culture and good bosses. finally i understand the meaning of this. the feeling is different and one will be much more willing to actively contribute to the organization.

did a mid-year review of performance. same flaws, the same flaws i am trying v hard to correct but really thankful that my manager spelled them out to me so it will really serve as a deep reminder. thank goodness she is nice and sees the other contributions minue the flaws.

the most important thing that struck me at the end of the review said by her is "Integrity - Admit your mistakes when you made them, do not dig another hole to cover up". I realize there are values at work and it is these values that one has to stick at all times. My values at work are slowly evolving, something i have only thought about here. Not perfect but those are my values.

no motivation to study at all...

I was reading The Straits Times this morning and couldn't help laughing, couldn't believe reading an article openly teasing the Europe crisis. To top it up, the article is in the Money section, one of the more serious section in the newspaper. Quoting a few definition off the article "Euro lingo for the clueless",

Finance ministry:
A house of worship where government leaders go to pray for bailouts, economic miracles, panaceas and other forms of divine intervention

Coordinated:
chaotic, unfocused, brain-dead, paralysed to the point of non-existence

Controlled default:
The act of telling another country's government that is is OK to stiff most creditors, and then watching with morbid fascination to see if the global banking system falls apart

this article was taken off a new york report. This probably tells us explicitly the relationship of the 2 countries.

Separately, some time back, I was supposed an update of how our 4th anniversary was imposed upon me. It was decided then that I should jot down all the things that I was made to do against my will for future memory sake. Celebrating our anniversary on 10th of September 2011 in advance of the actual day, I was imposed to do the following:
1) Queue for Charles and Keith warehouse sales at Paya Lebar though I have no intention of buying anything
2) Force to choose a bag from Tangs Vivo as anniversary present despite insisting that i do not want any present after the hole since the beginning of Sep
3) Force to choose a CK bag over my usual range of bags <$30
4) Lastly, had to eat buffet at a restaurant at RWS despite my request to eat at hawker

That was how we celebrated our anniversary. What an imposing-on-me celebration. in good spirits, thank you :)

HAPPY 26th BIRTHDAY, dear :)

*smiles* finally a heave of relief at the end of the 2 nights event. been really a very long while since i organized an event. this was a major birthday celebration planned for you, supposed to be my way of saying thank you.

2 months of planning, 2 weeks to execute. indeed it wasn't easy to coordinate, especially when it involves mainly his friends. attendance couldn't be confirmed till approximately 1 week or so before the event. from a 1 night party, it extented to 2-night parties involving 6 groups of friends. plans changed so much along the way but eventually all were ironed out. $$ was a huge factor and took up my entire bonus plus an entire month of savings. i was questioned about my generosity and spurge as compared to my usual miser self. but i realized i am not a diamond person, not a branded person, not a make-up person and definitely not a tai tai. that explains exactly why there is nothing for me to spend on myself except travelling. hence, the hard decision was made on the DSLR camera, considered as an investment. *smiles* seriously considering not having a professional photoshoot but a DIY photography, wondering what is the feasibility.

Overall, really glad the entire event went smoothly, secretly happy over how smoothly sat went where the timing was exactly right :)

For memory sake, let me just quickly jot down the events.
1st Sept:
Buffet Lunch at 10 @ Claymore, Pan Pacific Hotel
Smurf movie at Shaw Lido
Dinner at Kopitiam near Kaplan before going to school while i secretly made way to his house to collect clothes packed by his sis
Went home and stay up till 1 am to prepare the last minute guest papers for his friends to jot down their well wishes.

2nd Sept:
Chalet @ Costa Sands (Downtown East)
Dinner delivery from 933 Golden Pillow
Picked up birthday boy from Tanah Merah before bringing him to the chalet.
Surprise attendance from wai ping and friends, novin and friend, lydia and friends. *smiles* really appreciated all the travelling from the west down and after work :) unexpected dropping by from vincent! really thanks for dropping by and coming in the nick of time just when i needed some help over the food!
Watched soccer match btw S-League and China.
Heart-shaped chocolate cake from Coffee Bean
Stayover with friends

3rd Sept:
MacDonald's breakfast with Wai Ping and friends
Wow Wow Wet with Bro, cousin and us
Lunch + Bubble tea
Cycling around Pasir Ris (Visited Pony farm, fishing pond, prawning pond)
Surprise finale dinner, attended by min rui and friends, berdine and friends, Jacqueline and friends, sister and bf.
Catered dinner from Eatz Catering, excellent service
Mocho Cake from Bengawan Solo

So many note of thanks to say to his friends, those who coordinated and those who attended, to make this a success. Seriously, at the start of the planning, I was so worried that no one will turn up. Afterall, due to budget constraints, dinner cost had to be shared and majority had to travel from far west. A few had to take cabs to rush down after work to reach the place as planned and on time. I felt really bad but also really glad for their help. thankfully being on good terms with his sister helped :)

*smiles* i guess ultimately, the lugging of the big bags around half of singapore on fri morning, the anxiety and the last min late nights planning are all worth it, seeing that surprised happiness on your face over the 2 nights. So glad that my cousin could join us for www to make www more fun too :) 4 years ago, we celebrated your birthday at Pasir Ris too, then we were just friends out on an cycling excusion. exactly 4 years ago, it was that day's excursion that moved my heart for the first time.

This marks the official gearing up for full concentration over work and studies :)

10 minutes.

Decided to spend 10 minutes to do some quick updates to this blog and more importantly, self reflections. Time seem to fly past faster than I expected, where my weekends are gone in a blink. Seemingly, nothing seem to have been completed over the weekends yet I thought lots was done.

2 weeks of orientation came and went. so quickly. it was a great experience and enjoyed the more operational aspects of this company, seeing how each operations add up to the overall workings and success of a big organization. it is impressive how things have evolved till it is today. It also triggered considerations i previously thought was out of the question. to stay in finance or otherwise in the long run. but this is a place where long term career can be seriously considered. plans still have to be ironed out...

recently, been trying to force myself to do some studying. lol harder and more time consuming than I thought and seriously wonder how i can cover the 2 modules by November to be ready for the exam, seem really quite a bit of stuff to digest. perhaps I can't expect to ace the exams but rather to strive just to pass them. haha but still have to try...

created a simple 5-year plan to achieve. wow for the first time, i moved beyond a 1 year resolution. well, there is one particular dream i have yet to achieve, a childhood dream that i really hope to obtain at the end of this 5 year plan. but i wonder if this will be somewhat affected by other plans in place...

another change from previously, this time my goals setting included my other half. no matter how ambitious I may seem, i do not deny that the happiness of both mean more than anything ultimately. goals and dreams are no longer up to an individual to set and chase, it has to be mutually agreed and strive towards.

on a side note, recently, i am no longer afraid of getting married. admittedly, i used to be and tried to avoid the topic as much as possible. I used to think it is marriage requires a lot of commitments. but now, i realize it is a new challenge. the planning seem to get more exciting as it goes. *smiles*

Hard Facts of Life.

I am contented with my current life despite having a huge tradeoff between salary and happiness. When the decision was made 4 months ago, i knew i will never look back. I found back a sense of happiness i have never felt in audit as there are too many emotional factors. Now, i am happy everyday, learning from a different angle.

Definitely, there are many times i had been upset, learning that this hard fact affected everything, even marriage. I took a count on the sums required, it's a scary amount to even think of- wedding dinner, renovation and house can practically soak up everything including my near future income. The thought was very scary and very intimidating.

There was a day i allowed myself to sink in a little to the unhappiness of this hard fact of life, so i took the train down to find him. He is often my solace, as being with him, i realize the other little things that matter more to me than that. He showed me passion for work and he showed me warmth. yes, my motto of simplicity never goes away, i do not need much luxuries in life, neither do i need much pampering, all i need is this sense of happiness that is not measurable. i believe that being happy with what you are doing is the key to success. All of us will succeed in different ways in our pursuit of career but only we can judge ourselves based on our measurement of success.

:) on a side note, my love for trekking stays on. I love the view from Panorama hill, beautiful for a hill.

Sunday, June 5, 2011

Looking forward to a short simple trek at end of Juneeee :) the more i plan, the more exciting the trip seems to be! rainbow waterfall, beautiful sunrise and a long bridge :)

it seems to get more greedy as time goes, seeing people coming back from overseas, it really tempts me too. despite going to malaysia just 3 months back, the desire to go overseas was still strong. there was much resistance as i am trying hard to save up enough for a proper Europe trip next year. in the end, a compromise was reached to go for a really affordable overseas getaway. a trek is something i would love to go for!

June will be an exciting month!

One word to seal it all...

the moment came unexpectedly. there was no way to describe how it happened upon being tricked into the hotel room after a full day of events. instead of seeing an ongoing ManU match, i saw a dark room. the question came so formerly that i was caught offguard. the first instinct was just to get him to stand up.

the next surprise was to see two of my closest friends pop out of nowhere! feeling suddenly overwhelmed by their presence, i was brought to see the other details prepared. *smiles* not being a detailed person, i totally did not see the effects of the torchlight till explicited told. upon seeing the effects, i was totally stunned. haha...the biggest surprise for the night was the 38 well wishes collated in a short span of time. yes i have no idea how my friends closest to me could be so skilled at getting those well wishes without me knowing. *hugs* been quite a workaholic since working but i have been really very lucky to be blessed with good friends that i will treasure for all my life. finally, i saw a pretty dress and blouse from my fav local brand hanging in the warerobe. *smiles* next up was the crane dance :) a very amazing piece of artwork.

the night was spent at an Crawford Tower hotel with 24hour personalized service. omg. i was just stunned by the personalized service that i can't believe a bartler being present to tend to any special request, be it preparing the special types of bath to preparing the coffee. i didn't know soaking in the bath tub could be such an aromatic luxury.

*smiles* thank you for everything and to the 2 girls who prepared everything. to have prepared everything to such extent including my all awaited lion king musical, thank you.

to think that on friday night i was still pondering over whether to get back to work on Sunday morning...currently basking in happiness.

feeling irritable.

words can't describe how irritated i felt at...at auditors and myself. had a full blast of queries from auditors on the reporting. Sadly, it is a reporting that is not very important to the management due to the lack of impact, and as the reporting party would rely more on the FS which is ultimately more heavily relied upon. Admittedly, I made some mistakes on my end and thank them for spotting those. I am learning too, trying to learn in a short span of time doesn't allow me to stop on the spot for too long. but despite spending so much time on them, resulting in putting my own work on a standstill, they just keep coming back with the same queries and sometimes even more. what makes it more annoying is that their queries/ changes kept coming in batches. It takes time to search those information, sometimes a lot of time.

Having submitted our schedules and even re-submitting it once, they still request for more changes to be put through. Today was a great day, till they spoiled my night when I came home to check my email, hoping to see a stamped copy.

ELECTIONS

General elections, the hottest topic in town which garnered the voices of singaporeans. seldom do we witness such united voices coming together to speak up. politics has taken a twist in the local scenes where the younger generations spoke with forces stronger than before.

debates have gone strong and powerful this election, becoming coffee talks in between the routines of daily life. exciting, emotional and debated everywhere, bringing us to ponder over many issues that occurred in the past and going forward. Being in the only GRC with walkover, there wasn't any headache to start off with but nonetheless watching excitedly from the sideline. my dad was the most anxious of the results, staying tuned from 10pm through the night to watch the release. he was satisfied of the results and even woke up early to heartily debate with us in the morning.

the government has indeed done many things for our country, achievements we cannot close our eyes and hearts upon. certain actions have to be taken even at the dissatisfaction of our citizens to bring this little dot to worldwide recognition. nonetheless, there are definately certain issues where i am unable to agree upon. the one thing that struck me the hardest this election was the apology by the PM. respect. many controversials have struck on this issue where some argued it is part of the tactic, but i stick firmly to my respect for him. knowing how much and how difficult it is for anyone to apologize, yet for the first time in history, an apology was received from the top personally. i believe there is a certain awakening by the government that they have to be more accountable for actions or mistakes taken. as widely advocated recently, do not be so quick to defend the policies, take a moment to reflect and think whether was it a mistake.

despite the way the constituencies are drawn out, despite the short notice, the opposition has fought well and fought to the very end of this election. kudos to all for putting up such a strong fight which showed how powerful the people believe that more voices should be heard in the parliment. kudos to the opposition for bringing on people of reputable and respectable standards to increase the credibility of the opposition. kudos to Mr Chiam See Tong for being so dedicated to serving singapore. definately, the opposition does not have the calibre to rule the country but we just need more voices to heard from within. specifically, many voices of the heartily debated marine parade and aljunied GRCs, have been voiced. with some taking a personal grudge against a particular person in the team, it can pull down a stronghold singlyhandedly to just 50+% from a formerly 70+%. despite feeling horribly mean at times, i can't dislodge my personal unhappiness against the team led by one of the highly respected man in our country.

for aljunied, the voices are probably strong enough to tell the sentiments of the people. definately, a pity for all, losing an excellent foreign minister and 2nd to finance minister but that calls for more flexibility in the system where the members of parliment should be truly capable people and not just those called in from being simply shielded by being an a GRC.

all in all, there are too many afterthoughts of 2011 General Elections. the next 5 years will be where actions will be taken, implemented and for results to show. it is now just the start.

The conversation goes...

gh: i am an asset, specifically property, which is often revaluated upwards

hp: then i am shareholders' equity, that values accordingly to market sentiments so my life is full of excitement since it fluctuates a lot

conclusion mutually reached: so the differences between us are all the liabilities such as provisions, provisions on houses and other provisions and debts

gh: ah ha! so i am valued always higher than you since A=L+SE.

don't tell me how lame this conversation is, because i think it is totally nonsensical. but the moment of craziness and crankiness was unbearingly funny, so here it goes to be documented and to be stayed in my memories.

When the sever is down at 5pm, it gives us a legitimate reason to pack and leave office at 5:30pm :) took the 6pm city hall shuttle and was home by 7pm, shiok.

recently, been blogging more, either due to more happenings in my life or simply more time :) things in life suddenly took many big turns with events turning up one after another. a big move, mixed feelings. happiness cum a tinge of sadness. nonetheless, i believe the happiness will overcome the mixed-up emotions eventually. it was a move with sacrifices where i have to face a little disappointment on my parents' faces. Though they are supportive, they can't hide the true emotions that their little girl has grown up. For myself, it was a move far away from the east which still holds the most memories of my growing up days.

the best ever chilli crab i have eaten found in...no signboard restaurant at geylang.

thanks to my craving for crab, dinner was costly, reaching close to $100 for 2. but the chilli crab was so delicious that it drove away the guiltiness and replaced it with blissful delights. thanks to dar being able to select a good crab, the crab we ate was a fleshy female crab :) i was really highly amused by how the entire huge chunk of meat could be detached easily from the shell and tasted so much crab meat and eggs. it added back all the calories i burnt in the past weeks of exercise. of course, not discounting the other seafood restaurants where i have not tried but this is definately much better than the one of the famous seafood restaurant along ECP. this craving will be curbed for a long while :)

Friday's workout was a long lost feeling, the feeling of a good proper workout with friends :) 2 solid hours of badminton, with minimal resting. being a convenient and easy to pick up sport, it brings back memories from primary sch playing at tiong bahru cc to sec sch lessons in class, JC friends playing at Tampines sports hall to uni hall days and now even after work exercise. sure looking forward to this being a more weekly event :)

Decisions are so hard to make.

Recently, there have been many decisions and it is especially difficult to make when it involves money. Having seen money out of my account consecutively, it really made me realize how hard money comes by. it comes in slowly but goes out fast. nonetheless, i will always remember that money is not hard to make, it is how you go about achieving it. ms chia, stop being such a control freak.

finally took up the courage to wipe out the remainings of my investment account for the Hutchison IPO after pouring through the many hundred pages of prospectus. hope they will be better than my funds. lolz. excited for my first step forward towards shares and looking forward to building my own little little investments.

also noted that it is not so easy as passion to further studies as it involves a lot more of $$$. it has always been my dream to have a master, not just any master but MBA. However, looking at the cost of $50k, i realize it is a super big barrier. tertiary education was a long repayment scrimping and saving already, MBA will be unimaginable. lolz. nonetheless, i have settled for professional certification meanwhile which is also money out of the pocket. definately afraid that i might not finish it, but nonetheless, i will try hard :) i have a long-term goal in mind, a career goal for myself in the next 6 years. i have no idea how to get there but is working to reach there eventually :) *smiles* was really relieved when i made up my mind on my career path as i clearly work towards goals, without goals i would feel really aimless.

definately aside from career and studies, there are many other aspects of life that i look forward to. this was inspired by the sunday times last week where the Brand's featured article of women at work. definately, this are all goals and dreams, whether they are be achieved, we shall review it again 3 years later :)

side-tracking a little, was upset on friday upon realizing the carelessness i have made at work recently. not sure whether it is an excuse to say i am still learning the ropes or i was plainly careless. despite checking (at least i thought i checked many times), i just did not spot my mistakes :( really a lot of careless mistakes! argh. hope i will be much much more careful, use my brain more to check on the sanity of the numbers and open my eyes big to check! **important ms chia**

yet all this disappointment with myself was slowly eroded during the night as we chit chatted and caught up! wow it was a 3.5-hour long chit chatting session, bringing back memories of audit and the great companionship. glad we are all keeping in contact despite us slowly leaving the audit world. sat was a total joy from early morning where my dear bro decided to buy back my dream longchomp bag though i was just teasing him when requesting to get a gift, especially good if he can bring back that particular model. lol not that i am materialistic but i am really want a good durable bag that can last for long after the many frustrations that my bags normally can't last. *touched* that he took my words from his previous trip and in the process of considering whether to be a gift or not, which i assume it is most probably going to be judging from his generosity recently :) i was so happy beyond words at seeing that gift. recently been totally spoilt by the people around me, from the phone to the robinson vouchers and now this longchomp bag. *guilty guilty* beyond words

the weekend was pure happiness, basking in the joy of ice-cream, sentosa, starbucks, friends and swimming :)

V-day 2011 - simple :)
3.5 years of companionship. i learnt a lot during these 3 years, grew up and more importantly i believe i became a better person. there are still many things i have not got used to, many things i still have to learn to handle but you have never failed to be right there beside me whenever i need. each of us have flaws but these are exactly what made you who you are and the person i love.

our little destruction on the sandy beach :)
just thought this picture looks cute.

my one-shot success!
yummydelicious ramily burger, long since i had such yummy one :)
WORK.
it has been great so far, lucky to have a companion to talk to and laugh around with :) equally important, i really enjoyed my work now. yes, this is what i want to do when i chose to move out of audit- a mix of financial statements and overview of the company, assisting with budget projection and some simple schedules for analysis. monthly, quarterly and yearly financial and management reporting. indeed this is a transition between audit and analyst. at least, my knowledge of FRS will still be in place yet being able to enjoy less restrictions over purely compliance of the standards. i feel lucky to be in this position, as i was given another position initally. luckily clarification allowed me to be where i am, something i really hope to work well with. the first week was much overloading of information where a senior taught me a lot, a lot about the business of the company. she was so patient and so detailed in her explanation, giving me much understanding not just about the company's current year movement and also its prior year. definately, the consolidation is not as complex as ocbc's but it is nonetheless a good size to learn from. i really enjoy the scenary where the view from the corridor oversees aeroplans taking off and landing. a very pretty and calm sight to behold.
life has been balanced, enjoying much freedom at night. Though travelling is really long, i enjoy my mornings reading newspapers along the way, something i always wanted to do but just couldn't do so in audit. now it is time to have a properly planned weekly schedule :) i am really looking forward and learning to enjoy work everyday :)

4days 3 nights - Kuala Lumpur + Desaru

Day 1:
Reached changi for collection of airport pass at 8:30am and managed to complete by 9am, successfully reaching budget terminal by 9+ am for checking in flight to KL. We arrived at KL by 11:25am despite a slight delay. Upon arrival, we caught a shuttle bus and express train to KL sentral and checked into hotel.

Factory tour was our first stop, lunching as we took a cab to our destination. I was impressed to see a real manufacturing factory along the outskirts of KL. Dinner was settled at Berjaya Times Square as we walked around the huge shopping mall with an indoor amusement park. We caught the movie "Mr & Mrs Incredible", super funny movie.

Day 2:
Woke up early to travel to the new bus terminal to book our tickets for the first bus at larkin bus terminal. We cabbed to sunway lagoon to spend the rest of the day there. woohoo 5 theme parks into 1 - Water park, adventure park, Wild Life park, Xtreme park and Scream park. Almost impossible to complete all the parks in one day, nonetheless, we sped through them! i really enjoyed myself a lot there despite having to walk to and fro the huge park. Leaving the park at 5pm, we took a bus back to KL sentral where we took our luggage and travel to chinatown in search for MY City hotel. The evening was spent enjoying chinatown and A&W!

Day 3:
A travelling day. we left hotel early at 6am for a morning stroll to the train station to catch the bus to Larkin. our 4hours (to johor) + 4hours (to Desaru) journey began. finally, we reached desaru at 4pm. Evening was spent at a kelong booked with the hotel. seafood dinner+kelong experience+ fireflies+fireworks!

Day 4:
Free and easy with phototaking around the beach.

The entire experience:
A packed trip with many fun-filled activities, travelling and a backpacker's experience. Switching hotels every night while carrying a heavy bag was more tiring than expected. it was only 3 nights but it was a quite tiring. a prelude to a possible europe trip next year :) it ended my break nicely.

A new chapter begins...

The start of the rabbit year marks a new chapter, a new chapter of career and a new beginning. i am really excited over the changes. indeed as one grows, we become comfortable in our environment and is afraid of changes. nonetheless, i am looking forward to my new work environment :)
A chapter closes...

As the tiger year drew to an end, it also marks an end to the first chapter of my working life. the last one month was full of contradictions, pacing back and forth of my decision. it was a tough decision, leaving behind a clearly defined career path, leaving behind the attractive salary and leaving behind the familiarity. but each time i took an hesitant step back, i move forward more confidently. i came into audit with the intention to stay for 3 years, with the intention to learn as much as I can. this dream could no longer be achieved but i have discovered my purpose in working. sometimes i wonder if i had called it quits without trying hard enough to the stay with the firm, but i realized i no longer want to stay with the firm as the culture is not ideal.

much as i enjoyed the work, i do not want to end up always tearing from stress and unhappiness over it. i do not want to work with a team with so much miscommunications during peak due to piling workload. instead of revolving my life around work, i want to be in more control of my time and journey of life. Having chosen to stop chasing the banking dream, I want to be in an industry i have an interest in. lastly, i realize i do not want to be so focus over financial statements and compliance but to approach it from a more business perspective. looking at the management letter points raised by myself, i do feel ashamed for bringing up such petty issues. yes, i have defined the path of my future journey and is working towards there.

on the last day, i teared when i drafted my final email to my engagement, biding them goodbye. recently, i had really long chats with my senior due to the uncountable times she came crying up to me. seeing her cry tugs at my heartstring knowing that her right-hand man is no longer able to assist her further. nonetheless, we have completed and rounded up almost all work thankfully. leaving the team at the crux handicapped them greatly, nonetheless, i left on amicable terms with everyone.

CHANGES.

many thoughts and feelings are going through my mind but somehow i can't seem able to pen down anything. a blank mind.

recently, hope has been shining brightly upon me, foreseeing a future of possibilities and dreams. decision to move on has been finalized, no more worries and unhappines over the same issue. the determination to leave my current situation is so strong that nothing can change that. yet when i officially declared, i was upset though relieved. irony. i know i will miss the working hours, miss the windowless audit room, miss saying hi to the security guards, miss the nature of the work and most importantly, miss the friends here. much as i am leaving this engagement forever, all i want to say is, this engagement is not a deep hole. it is where many memories of audit form and where there are many laughters within. definately been piled a lot of work but the learning exposure is excellent. great seniors who guided and taught me along the way, great managers to share their experiences. Yet, nobody is indispensible and dreams should be chased individually, not defined by the company. My apologies for leaving during the crunch time was accepted by my manager who acknowledged that "sometimes, we have to be selfish".

Definately, each job has their own perks and disadvantages. the pull factor now is so strong that i am really glad for the opportunity to move on. pleasantly surprised by the little little factors that add up, pleasantly pleased by the granting of my small requests really brought my confirmation to a full stop. no more deliberation, no more consideration but a definate resounding yes. looking forward to the change of environment, looking forward to a place i wish to stay long in.

the last month marks much ot-ing to round up the experience, but this shall be the last time i am contributing to this engagement and to this firm. looking forward, this time with confidence and happiness...

Goodbye 2010, hello 2011

2o10 was an exciting year, a year which taught me much about working life. working life is for a lifetime, not like studying where at the end of each year, we are closer to the end of the journey. learning about the craziness of working hours in audit to kick start the year, 12 midnight, 1am, 2am, 4am, overnight working till 6/8am was definately an experience. forcing ourselves awake with music, snacks and cross referencing

learnt how to multi multi task, which is a very basic requirement of audit. juggling many tasks on hand, simultaneously and liasing with multiple parties while trying to figure out where each piece falls under was a challenge. a real big challenge conquered and overcome. all in all, i really thank my this big engagement for teaching me so much during this short span of 1 year. the whole cycle starts from now, gambatte ahead! :)

other aspects of life including love, family and interests have been quite stable during the year with no significant changes.

forseeing 2011 as a great year of experiences starting from now. with many ambitious new year resolutions set out, i love the journey of discovering and achieving each of this resolution.
